Galangal  

– exotic super root

It may look like ginger and even seem a little like turmeric, but the root is incomparable. The galangal root. Botanically, it belongs to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) and originates from Southeast Asia. Freshly cut, dried or powdered, galangal is often used to flavour Asian dishes.

  

Spice of life

The galangal root has been used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for centuries as a remedy for various ailments.  At first glance, the root looks very similar to ginger. However, the skin of the galangal is smoother and paler and the inside can vary from white to pink to yellow. The two roots also differ in taste. Galangal has a citrusy and earthy aroma, ginger is hot and spicy.
