Turmeric

– a golden miracle

< previous Post next Post >

This bright golden-yellow root is a relative of ginger and has various names such as curcuma, curcumin, halada, Indian saffron and many more. The rhizome (underground stem) of the plant is commonly used in the Indian, Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine. It has a warming, spicy but also slightly bitter taste. Its bright colour has even inspired many cultures to use it as a dye for textiles. Today it is a common spice and the most important ingredient in curry powder.

An Indian medicinal plant

Turmeric has been used in Indian traditional medicine, called Ayurveda, for more than 4,000 years. Only a few medicinal plants have such a broad spectrum of properties and medicinal uses as turmeric. Above all, it is said to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

You cannot only take turmeric as a herbal dietary supplement in the form of powder or capsules, but you can also enjoy it in a much more delicious tea infusion. Our Ayurvedic fruit melange  Organic Currant Turmeric mild delights with a fruity taste and also fills you with warming energy.
